“Listen to the bees and let them guide you.”
—Brother Adam
In January 2022, Bob began his beekeeping journey with Bee School through the Mecklenburg County Beekeepers Association. Just a few months later, in March, he passed the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association exam and became a Certified Master Beekeeper. In April, Bob picked up two nucs (nucleus colonies with five frames of bees) and with them, honeybees officially became part of life here at Green Oak Cottage Farm.

Honeybees are the only insect in the world that produce food that humans can eat: honey.
Honeybees can recognize human faces and remember them for months.
A single honeybee will produce only about 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime.
Honeybees have five eyes, including three small eyes on the top of their head that can detect light polarization to help them navigate.
The buzzing sound of honeybees is the sound of their wings beating approximately 200 times per second!
